Recipe for Chaat (Spicey Mixture)
Ingredients: 300 gm imli (tamarind)
250 gm seedless dates
300 gm jaggery
1 litre water
1/2 tsp garam masala
2 tsp ginger powder
2 tsp roasted, ground cumin seeds
salt to taste
Chaat
a cup of sev
10 papris crumbled
100 ml curd
2 boiled potatoes
1 tbsp ginger shreds in lemon
3-4 green chillies - chopped
1 tbsp chopped coriander
1 pinch of red chilli powder
black salt to taste
Method:
For the Sonth, simmer the jaggery, tamarind and dates together in about 1 litre of water until soft. Puree the tamarind liquid after removing the seeds. Return the liquid to the pan with remaining ingredients and cook for a further 5 minutes. Re-season. For Chaat,mix all the ingredients together. Garnish with red chilli powder, mint chutney and sonth. Serve chilled.
